David Alan Bernahl,II is CEO & Co-­Founder of Coastal Luxury Management (CLM), an idea kitchen with a current focus in the hospitality and lifestyle sectors. CLM was first widely recognized for producing Pebble Beach Food & Wine, a four-­‐day, annual event hosted at Pebble Beach Resorts that attracts 8,000 people, 100 celebrity chefs, 250 international wineries and provides cooking demos, wine tastings, and numerous multi-­‐course lunches and dinners. In 2011, CLM launched the Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival, a citywide celebration of food and wine headquartered in downtown Los Angeles. Now going into its 5th year, Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival brings together celebrities and celebrity chefs for one of the largest luxury culinary events in the country.
CLM launched its restaurant division with the announcement of Cannery Row Brewing Co. in the summer of 2010, featuring the largest selection of beer on tap in Northern California. CRBC has been lauded as a “must visit” restaurant by the likes of Guy Fieri on Diners Drive-­‐Ins & Dives and by Rachael Ray. Next, CLM purchased the historic Stokes Adobe building and opened Restaurant 1833 in the summer of 2011, which was nominated for “Best New Restaurant” by the James Beard Foundation, named “Best of the Best” by Robb Report, and lauded as the hottest restaurant in Monterey County by Michael Bauer of the San Francisco Chronicle. On New Years Eve of 2013, CLM curated the social feast that is Rose. Rabbit. Lie. at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, a modern day supper club. Rose. Rabbit. Lie. was recognized as “Best New Las Vegas Restaurant” by Modern Luxury and Zagat as well as making the ‘38 Essentials” list on Eater.com. At the first ever Esquire Food & Drink Awards in 2014, RRL was hailed as “Best New Reason to Die from Happiness”. In March 2014, CLM opened its first Downtown Los Angeles restaurant called Faith & Flower. In just a few short months, Faith & Flower has been listed as one of Los Angeles’ best new restaurants by numerous publications including Esquire’s selection of “Best New Restaurants” of 2014, and also received recognition by Esquire for “Best Cocktail” of 2014.
In addition to its signature events and restaurants, CLM develops custom event content and production for a select list of partners and corporate clients such as Lexus and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. In 2012, CLM launched its catering concept, Coastal Luxury Catering, a full service catering company that produces small to large scale events, weddings and corporate functions, regionally and nationally, while acting as the official event production company for the world renowned 330 acre historic Stonepine Estate in Carmel Valley. In late 2013, CLM partnered with Charles Banks and Brook Bradbury to launch Vessel, a highly curated glassware and tabletop online company that has been responsible for the highly publicized table top programs at Rose. Rabbit. Lie. and Faith & Flower.
Prior to his foray into hospitality, Bernahl was Co-­‐Founder, President, & CEO of Pacific Tweed, Incorporated, a luxury men’s and women’s apparel firm located in Carmel, California. Pacific Tweed was the first luxury mens and womens store in Monterey County featuring brands like Prada, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Loro Piana, and Kiton. Pacific Tweed has been the recipient of “Best New Business” (2004), “Retailer of the Year” (2005, 2006, 2007), and “Business of the Year” (2006) from the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Pacific Tweed was listed as one of the top 50 specialty stores in the United States in numerous publications.
Bernahl is involved in numerous community-­‐based organizations: he is past chair and now Chairman Emeritus of Voices for Children of Monterey County, board member of the California International Relations Foundation, past President of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council, past Chair of the Monterey County Workforce Investment Board, past board member of Monterey County Bank and Northern California Bancorp (NYSE: NRLB), past board member of the Carmel Chamber of Commerce, past board member of the Lincoln Club of Northern California, and past board member and Charges de Presses of the Chaines Des Rotisseurs. Mr. Bernahl is retired member of the Carmel By the Sea Rotary Club where he is a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Bernahl was honored to have an endowment fund created in his name, the David Alan Bernahl, II Local Heroes Fund, which is dedicated to the ongoing financial support of Voices for Children.
